God has joined

What God has joined together – Matthew 19:6

Marriage is the Lords doing. Marriage is honorable in all. Marriage is sacred in Gods sight. God sees it as a covenant as mentioned in book of Malachi 2:14. There is a quite old saying that “Marriages are made in heaven”, it seems right because the word of God says that “What God has joined together, let no man separate.” It is the Lords doing and is marvelous in our sight. So the question is, does God intervene in marriage decisions? Single men and women always ask this question, “What is Gods will for my marriage”? How can find God’s will for my marriage? Is this the God’s choice for me?

There is a wedding recorded in the Book of Genesis which the Lord directs, shows and makes it happen. In Genesis Chapter 24, Abraham calls his servant Eliezer, takes an oath to go to the land of his father and get a bride for his son Isaac from his own people.

Firstly, Prayer is the key in knowing God’s will and direction. Eliezer the oldest servant in Abraham’s house will make a journey with all the gifts to the land of Abrahams father, upon arriving at the land of Abrahams father, he prays Gen 24:12-14, O LORD God of my master Abraham, Please grant me success today. I come to the town, I am standing the spring of water, the young woman who I shall say Please let down your jar that I may drink, and who shall say ‘ Drink and I will water your camels’, let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. Rebekah, a young woman who was very attractive in appearance, she went down filled her jar and came up. Then the servant ran to meet her and said “Please give me a little water from your jar to drink”. She said drink my lord, and she quickly lowered her jar to the servant, and when she is finished, she said “I will draw water for your camels also, until they has finished drinking”. Eliezer did not immediately say to her, I am so and so came for so and so reason. Entire bible talks about the prayer and God’s will, Moses prays and asks the LORD to show the way that I may know (Exodus 33:13). Nehemiah prayed for the Lord to give him favor and success in sight of the king. (Nehemiah 1:6-11). Nehemiah found the favor before the king. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will direct your paths, commit your work into his hands and he will prosper it. Without prayer, we should not plan, or do anything. Prayer is the key before we do anything. Only the Lord can prosper the way. Prayer is taking our requests, pleas, desires, needs before the Lord. So, let us make a consistent approach in prayer as we are taught in the word of God. How we should pray. Here are some of the truths about prayers. Ask and you will receive (Mt 7:7). Pray without fainting (Luke 18:1), Striving in Prayer (Romans 15:30), Pray always (2 Thessalonians 1:9), Laboring in Prayer (Colossians 4:2), Pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:18), Pray in every remembarence. (Phil 1:3). Without God we can do nothing (John 15:5). Our Lord Jesus prayer life summary, early in the morning he prayed (Mark 1:35), All night he prayed (Luke 6:12), Often times he prayed (Luke 5:16), before Lazarus was brought to life (Mt 11:44), before feeding five thousand people (John 6 :) . Our Lord has taught us the pattern of prayer life. Do you pray on a daily basis? Do you attend any prayer meetings? Get together with other like minded believers and pray. As the Lord mentioned if you bind something on earth, it will be bound in heaven (Mt 18:18).

Secondly, Waiting on the LORD to confirming God’s will is another key thing in marriage. The man gazed her in silence to learn weather the LORD has prospered his journey or not. (Gen 24: ) Eliezer did not hastily make a decision, he examined her and her deligence, before he asked who she was and asked if there was place at her father’s house to stay. Then Eliezer gave her a gold ring and two bracelets for her arms. She is daughter of Bethuel, son of milcah, son of Nahor. Then Eliezer bowed and worshiped the LORD.
Waiting on God is key in finding out God’s will for the future of any young single man or woman. Many youngsters and families make a hasty decision to go with the marriage without completely seeking God’s will in their lives. When Eliezer asked Rebekah to give him some water, she said she would give the water not only to him but also water all his camels. Then Eliezer did not immediately did not ask her the details and tell her the whole story, but waited to see if she would fulfill the word she said, that I would water your camels. Her keeping of the word, her doing till the last one, diligence was looked at to find out if she is fulfilling the request that he asked the Lord to water the camels. Waiting on God is key in knowing his will. Do not be confirmed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of the mind, that by testing you may discern the will of God is, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2. Testing and discerning the will of God is key, so pray and finding the Lords will go hand in hand. Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find. Seeks the lords hand, directions and confirmation. Several people in the word had questions about is it really you, please confirm it to me. Few of the examples are Gideon, When the angel of the Lord, came and told Gideon to fight the battle, he said do not be angry please confirm it through fleece approach. Lord will be compassion on human weakness to confirm it. Abraham asked the Lord, Lord you have given things I need but Eliezer would be my heir. So the Lord confirmed it and told things about his future, confirming his will in Genesis 15, even before Isaac was born. Paul prayed and waited and Lord confirmed his will through the vision for the man from macadonia. God will use several ways he will confirm his will, through his servants, through his word, through dreams and visions, through his spirit who indwells in us. He will satisfy the hungry heart. He knows who are thirsty for God, to know his fill and they will be satisfied.

Thirdly, There will be worship because of Gods guidance and confirmation. Then Eliezer bowed and worshiped the LORD. There will be worship in God lead marriage, God will get all the glory from the marriage. Because he was sought, found and confirmed his will. It will be for the glory for the Lord. Worship is about him, worship is giving him the glory due his name. We worship him for who he is. He is almighty, infinitely wise, ever loving, and looking to guide his people. 2 Chronicles 16:9, the eyes of the Lord run to and fro towards all the earth to show himself strong on behalf of those who hearts are perfect towards him.
Rebekah ran to her fathers house and told her brother Laban. They brought the servant and all the camels into the house and prepare a meal for him. But Eliezer before he eats he tells all the things that happened, how Abraham took an oath and sent him and how he prayed and talked to Rebekah, and how the LORD confirmed his will. Then Eliezer ask what do you want me to do, then Rebekah’s brother Laban and father Bethuel, say “The thing has come from the LORD”. Let her be the wife your master’s son as the LORD has spoken. It will be the confirmation from both sides that is from the LORD, both the groom and bride will know it. Marriages are a testimony of the Lords work. Talk to the devoted Christian married couples they will tell you stories of how the Lord lead them to find the partner and how thankful to the Lord for that. How they worship the Lord each time they remember the Lords work.

May the lead all the single men and women to find out the Lords will for their marriage. Amen.

Marriage is Honorable in All.

Sermon preached by Bro.Samson Boodala at a Wedding anniversary. **********************************************************

Marriage is Honorable in All. Hebrews 13:4.

Marriage is honorable in the Lord sight. Marriage is ordained by the Lord. He instituted the marriage between Adam and Eve, the first marriage is done by God the father in the Garden of Eden. LORD God said “it is not good for man to be alone”, I will make him a helper fit for him (Genesis 2:18). So LORD God has caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. (Gen 2:21,22). So it is the LORD God who brought the woman to the man and instituting the first marriage. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Gen 2:24).

Firstly, Marriage is honorable in all because, God made it. My Lord Jesus mentioning in Matt 19:5-6 – What God has joined let no man separate. Lord Jesus himself says “God has joined”. There is a saying Marriages are made in heaven, seems right. It is the Lord that directs a marriage. It is the Lord’s doing it will be marvelous to the sight. If only the married couples realize that the Lord is the one who joined them not a human decision, the marriage will be a joyful relationship. Even direction on choosing the spouse is from the Lord. There is a marriage mentioned in Book of Genesis Chapter 24, where Abraham sends his servant Eliezer to find a bride for his son Isaac from his father’s household. We can see the Lord directing it, confirming his will and resulting in the successful marriage. There are three key lessons we can learn from that marriage example, which is shared in another sermon that Lord gave me few weeks ago.

Secondly, Marriage is honorable is because it is a covenant in sight of God. She is your companion and your wife by covenant. Malachi 2:14. Covenant is unbroken relation. Covenant in scriptures is related to God and his people. God made several covenants with his people. God was named and mentioned in prayers as covenant keeping God. (Dan 9:4, and Nehemiah 1:5). God always kept the covenant he made, it is the people in their weakness are covenant breakers. God made a covenant with Adam (Gen 3), Noah (Gen 8), Abraham (Gen 12), Moses (Ex 19,20 ) , David (2 Samuel 7) and New Covenant (Jer 31:33, Matt 26:46). Covenant is sacred, that is reason in Gods sight marriage is unbreakable or unseparable because it is a convenant. As the couple takes the vow in marriage, “till death do us part”. It is scriptural (I Corinthians 7:39). God hates divorce (Mal 3:16). So much of divorce in America, the current statistics paints a very bad picture of times we live in, 50% of marriages in church are ending up in divorce. How much Gods heart is greaved by it? Divorce is permitted not a must or compulsion only a marital unfaithfulness (i,e adultery).

Comparing the covenant relation of Marriage, God paints a picture in the minds of people through the scriptures in OT God is spoken as married to the nation of Israel. In Isaiah 54:5 clearly says, for your Maker is your husband, Isaiah 62:4-5, God talks to nation of Israel again through Hosea 2:16, you will call me my husband. In New Testament, Christ is pictured as groom and church as the bride, Ephesians 5:22-32, for I betrothed to one husband, to present as pure virgin to Christ. II Corinthians 11:2.

Thirdly, LORD is a witness in the marriage. (Malachi 2:14), Marriage is not just saying the vows before the people as a witness. The witness who never changes (Mal. 3:6, James 4:17), who cannot be swayed, who never falsifies the witness for his own gain, A faithful witness ( Rev 1:5 ) is Lord Jesus, who is NOT a false witness. The Married couple both the man and woman has the realize that God is watching and Christ Jesus the faithful witness is witnessing everything in the Marriage, every thought, word, action, motive, intent and plans. Many marriages would have not broken, many children saved, if only we realize that LORD is watching. He will neither slumbers nor sleeps, nothing can escape his eyes. In the context of Malachi 2, LORD is judging the Priests for their unfaithfulness to their wives. Man be faithful to your wife, and woman be faithful to your husband knowing that the LORD is watching. Do not be unfaithful. Know that your bodies is the temple of Holy Spirit (I Cor. 6:19) so do not defile it. Stay faithful to your spouse, fulfill your desires in your spouse. Physical, emotional, needs are meet in marriage, examples are in Proverbs 5, I Corinthians 7.

May the Lord bless your marriage, and keep you. May the Lord, through the Holy Spirit, open your understanding to the scriptures about the marriage. Now to him, who is able to keep you from stumbling and present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to only God, our savior through Jesus Christ, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time, and now for ever. Amen.
